Bromsgrove District Council’s Conservative Cabinet has announced that Council Tax will be frozen for the year 2015-16.
The freeze marks the third year since 2011 that the level of Council Tax has not risen.
The Council has been able to freeze Council Tax thanks to savings of up to £63,000 made by departments over the last year.
The Government will also award a grant to the Council as part of a policy to encourage local authorities to grant a Council Tax freeze for hard-working families.
A Conservative spokesperson said:
“The Conservatives in Bromsgrove have been able to freeze Council Tax because we have been prudent with savings. It would not have been wise to commit ourselves to a freeze before we could find the money to pay for it.
“The leader of the Labour Group committed himself and his party to a freeze, despite publicly admitting that he was doing this without knowing what the budget would look like. This would have been incredibly irresponsible, and would have been nothing but a blatant election bribe.
“The Conservatives have protected frontline services whilst making savings, and have now ensured that we can give these savings back to our residents."
