Sajid Javid has been re-elected as the Member of Parliament for Bromsgrove with a majority of more than 16,000 in the General Election that took place on 7th May.
Local elections on the same day also saw the Conservatives retain their majority on Bromsgrove District Council for another four years.
Mr Javid polled 28,133, over 53% of the votes cast, beating Labour into second place on 11,604. The result sees his majority increase by 5,221 votes since he was first elected in 2010.
At the local level, the Conservatives secured 18 of the 31 seats being contested in the local elections. Labour won 7 seats, and the Independent Alliance won 6 seats.
The Conservatives were the only party to contest every seat in Bromsgrove District, and managed to win 51% of the vote across the local authority area.
The victory means that the Conservatives will keep control of the District Council, which they have held since 2001.
Margaret Sherrey, Leader of the Conservative Group on Bromsgrove District Council, said:
“The election results in Bromsgrove are a resounding endorsement of the Conservatives. The massive increase in Sajid’s vote shows what a success he has been as Bromsgrove’s MP, and I know that he will continue to serve his constituents well over the next five years.
“Although we lost some seats in the District Council elections, the fact that we still have control of the Council demonstrates the faith that Bromsgrove’s public has placed in us. By contrast, despite Labour’s scaremongering, they have failed to convince the voters that they offer a credible alternative.
“The Conservatives intend to build on the successes of the last four years, and will continue to work in the interest of all our residents, regardless of who they voted for.”
